How to Apply Foundation

Foundations are the base of the makeup. They are essential cosmetic products that provide a flawless and even complexion, on which you can apply all other makeup items. Some guide lines for apply foundation.

Cleanse and tone your skin Always apply foundation to cleansed and toned skin. Use mild cleanser appropriate for your skin and cleanse your face thoroughly to remove all impurities and oils that have accumulated during night. Tone your skin with toner that suits your skin. Use it lavishly and apply it with cotton pad and wipe until clean.

Moisturize your skin Always moisturize your skin before applying foundation even if your skin is oily. The first step when applying makeup is application of appropriate moisturizer according to your skin type. It will improve skin quality and act as a protective layer to help trap the moisture in skin and stop it from evaporation. Apply moisturizer and let it soak in at least 2 minutes before applying foundation. Moisturizers protect your skin from sun, wind, cold, from environmental pollutants and nourish your skin. Moisturizers plump and comfort your skin and make foundation easier to blend smoothly.

Use concealer Apply concealer to your problem areas. Dot concealer only in places you need to. Start with slightly darker tone and blend into with sponge to match the lighter foundation in order to avoid creating light spots. Do not use too lighter concealer to hide dark circles under eyes; it should be just slightly lighter than foundation color. To hide pimples or spots always use thick concealer that matches your skin tone. Apply it using a small makeup brush directly on spot and blend slightly till it disappears.

Application Warm up the foundation in your palm. The best way to apply it is using your fingertips or makeup sponge. Using your fingertips will give heaviest application, but sponge gives a thinner application .Put little foundation on makeup sponge, foundation brush or on your fingertips. A sponge provides more control and smoother application.

Start applying foundation in centre of your face and make sure the color matches your skin tone. Dot foundation on the cheekbones, chin, forehead, nose eyelids. With the help of the sponge or your fingertips blend it well. Gently press sponge over your face to set the foundation.

Blend Start blending at forehead and slowly spread all over the face, moving in circular motion. Blend out to jaw line and your hair line until foundation vanishes. Do not forget to apply foundation to neck, especially if you are using darker shade of foundation otherwise face will look like a mask and unnatural.

Set the foundation To set foundation, apply loose powder immediately after application. The powder will hold foundation in place for longer period of time. Dab the powder brush into the powder and shake off excess powder. The brush will help you to apply powder evenly to facial contours for a well blended powder finish. Apply it firstly to centre of your face, forehead and chin. Stroke the face gently to cover the all areas evenly.
